Since March 1983, the Instituto de Apoio à Criança (Child Care Institute)  de has made ​​efforts to support and spread the word on the work of all those who care about the search for new answers to the problems of childhood in Portugal, taking the active role in promoting and defending Children’s Rights, with different entities, institutions and the community at large.
Dr. Maria Emilia Santos Brederode stated:
"The IAC has played a supplementary role to solve the shortcomings – either in studies or action – of State institutions and has developed a pioneering role in the detection of new needs, new risks and new problems, trying to organize the correspondent new answers".
So being, and while uncompromisingly defending its commitment to all Children, namely in the promotion and protection of Children’s Rights, the IAC  has primarily chosen the following values ​​(while others are not excluded from the work of IAC’s teams):
